Beyond Soccer – A Youth Program that is More than Sports

The holiday season is all about giving. It’s about coming together as a community, supporting one another, being kind and lifting the spirits of those around you. The holidays bring a sense of joy, warmth and oneness. We may lend a helping hand to those in need, donate to a charity, volunteer our time, or simply give a smile to a stranger.

At RoundTower, community giving has always been a cornerstone of our beliefs as an organization. We are proud to support many charities throughout the year in a variety of ways. During this holiday season, we wanted to take the opportunity to spotlight Beyond Soccer, an organization that we’ve teamed up with this year.

Beyond Soccer is a sports-based, youth development organization serving the City of Lawrence, which is one of the poorest communities in the country. What began as the city’s first-ever girls travel soccer team, now impacts more than 2,000 students. Current programs extend well beyond the field to include academic enrichment, health and wellness, leadership development, cooking courses, and more.

I recently sat down with Beyond Soccer Executive Director, Stephanie McArdle. We were joined by RoundTower Managing Partner, Gary Halloran, who was born and raised in Lawrence MA and now serves on the Board of Directors for Beyond Soccer. We presented Stephanie with a donation raised from the proceeds of RoundTower’s 2016 Charity Golf Tournament, for which she expressed her appreciation.

We are grateful for RoundTower Technologies’ generous donation. Beyond Soccer is a small, but impactful nonprofit reaching thousands of kids in Lawrence. We prioritize year-round, long term participation so we really get to know our kids and families. The winter presents an important time for engagement, especially off the field. RoundTower’s donation will ensure that 100% of the kids competing on our middle and high school travel teams are connected to sport, health, academic, and leadership programs this winter. Some of those planned activities include weekly futsal and fitness programs, speed and agility training and even yoga, which helps kids commit to their physical and mental health. We will use our new computer lab to pair students with academic need to local tutors for after school homework assistance. This January, we will also get parents and players cooking together in our teaching kitchen and host first-time, financial literacy workshops for our oldest Beyond Soccer alumni who are preparing for college and career. Thanks again to RoundTower Technologies for supporting our mission and programs in Lawrence. We will continue to work hard so you are proud of this partnership.

— Stephanie McArdle

We want to thank you, our customers, business partners, and friends for helping to make this possible. Each year our charity tournament has grown and we can expand the ways that we impact and support the kids of Lawrence. Your generous sponsorships and donations make a meaningful difference.

May the spirit of giving remind us to be grateful for all that we have.
